A single conversation
across the table
with a
wise man
is
worth
a month's
study of books.
-
Chinese proverb
*
Before we
develop
Self-Awareness,
we need
people
in our lives
who will
challenge
our
values, principles and attitudes
by
asking us
the
necessary questions.
*
When you
interact with a
wise person,
his words, behaviour and attitudes
reveal
what you never knew
about yourself.
His speech and actions
help you
realize
what you
didn't think of
[but
could have thought of]
and
what you
didn't do
[but
could have done too].
They serve as
mirrors
in our lives.
And
learning more about
ourselves
through
their
involvement
in such moments of your life,
How would
you choose to respond?
either to
open up
your heart:
accept the truth,
learn
and
adopt a
new way;
you allow him
to
stretch and enlarge
your mind
-
you start
thinking what
you never thought of
you allow his
opinions and counsel
to
fine-tune
your attitudes and character
-
you are capable
of making
wise decisions
and
begin
walking in the right direction
of life.
You become
wiser.
And soon,
you serve as
mirrors
to others.
*
or to
shut up
your heart:
resist the truth,
walk away
and
insist on your old ways
-
wallow in
a tiny, limited, backdated
world,
where
everything is
made
by your hands,
supported and sustained
by the strength of
your will
and
dangerously vulnerable
to the next
bad weather;
one strike -
no matter how
strong your will power,
all will
crumble.
Fools
always have to
learn things
the
hard way.
*
We don't need
catastrophe
to believe
truth
is good
for us.
We just need
to
pursue
wise people
to
have conversations with us
across the table.
Wisdom
gained from
personal relationships with the wise
will
never found in
books.
