My last days of 2008
was unfortunately not as pleasant as it should be.
I was treading on volatile grounds
and, bluntly put,
it exploded and crashed to a close
before I could welcome 2009.
I thought, what a fantastic start of the year!?

Then I recall how some things have
to first, die
[most of the time, brutally,
after the struggling exhausts you enough
to make you quieten down]
to allow for greater things
to be birthed.
Writing this,
I realise, very often,
we are too strong for our good.
We think we can take things in our own hands.
We sleep through troubles hoping for an amnesiac effect.
I've done that countless times.
But this heaviness doesn't barge; it stays and sticks to you.

But this heaviness doesn't barge; it stays and sticks to you.
We get frustrated and wrestle
to the very last ounce of strength left in ourselves.
And when you are completely strengthless,
you crumble to the ground;
and the only way to persist is
to crawl and cry out.
You surrender
and it is now
that a greater strength scoops you up in his arms
and smile at you.
And I hear,
'Fall back on me,
I'll carry you through.
My eyes will never leave you.'
Then the second day of 2009
was a breath of fresh air.
I may be a day late,
but I entered it with a smile anyway.
If you haven't figured out
what these sparkle pops are up to in my bedroom,
they're in the midst of a physically-challenging game.
For 15 minutes,
my room converted into what seems like a yoga class
where these amateurs shiver and quake
whilst maintaining awkward poses.
It was absolutely bone-tickling to watch!

Dinner is ooh la la -
why of course,
with culinary maestro Aaron Leow.
Rest of the crew
could only prance about the expert
and attend to menial cooking tasks such as
brandishing the broccoli for the camera
and sawing slippery button mushrooms.

Please don't mind my language -
I can't help but say,
I love you, sparkle pops!
