I'm glad the weather's cold,
Otherwise I'd be feeling worse today.
We can't avoid bad days.
And bad as it can be,
The only way to get over it
Is to get through it.
Bad times tests our attitude.
They can surface the worst in you.
Today I am reminded about
The difference between
Wanting and Doing.
We can want something -
Well, we want so many things,
And yet we may not do
What we need to do
to get what we want.
I never knew how
An intention without the necessary actions
Could be such a vulgarity.
It's like marketing oneself
To look so righteous
While the actions and decisions you're making
Mean another.
The mouth says one thing,
The will does another.
I don't think it's confusion,
But sheer rebellion and stubbornness.
I'm reminded of what King Solomon wrote in Proverbs -
Even a fool has more hope than
A person who has a mind of his own.
It's not about being nothing but a
Blind sheep eating whatever people shove into your mouth.
It's not about being a bimbo and
Doing whatever others tell you to.
It's not about being shallow.
I think if we want to be wise,
We cannot depend on our own judgement,
We cannot just heed our opinions -
Cos if every opinion we have is the truth,
If every idea we have is the best,
Then we can be God,
And we'd never have failures and disappointments in life.
Wise people seek the advice of people wiser than them.
They understand that the
Counsel of many leads to safety.
Wise people find joy in
Growing under the covering of someone wiser.
They're not prideful to be advised.
They don't despise the counsel of others,
They consider what others say,
And weigh decisions with an objective mind.
It takes time to listen.
It takes energy to challenge.
But to one who
Already has a mind of his own,
Wisdom calls out to him,
It beseeches him to turn around, listen and obey.
But if he persists in his stubbornness,
Wisdom will no longer pursue him,
Fo he never saw the value in embracing her.
'The fool has more hope
Than the man who has a mind of his own.'
'And because they refuse to acknowledge...
He gave them over to their
Debased minds.'
