What's your
motive?
*
In a study of
200
artists
18 years after
they graduated from
art school,
psychology has documented
those
who
had become
serious painters
are those who
in student days
had
enjoyed the
sheer joy
of
painting
itself.
Those who
had been
motivated
by
dreams of
fame
and
wealth
mostly
didn't make it
in the
art industry
soon after graduating.
It was concluded
that,
like everything
we want to
be,
like,
'Painters
must want
to paint
above all else.
If the
artist
in front of the canvas
begins to
wonder
how much
money
can he make
from it
or
what the critics
will
think of it,
he won't be able
to pursue
original avenues.
Creative achievements
depend on
single-minded
immersion.'
I believe
it is so
for
every achievement.
Not every dream
is stirred from
a
pure motive.
If we are
concerned about
what we can
take
the dream
[fame, wealth, ego-boost],
we become
vulnerable to
what people
think or say
along the way.
Our motivation
becomes
shaped by external forces
instead of
where it should
stem from:
the heart.
Sustainable Motivation
comes from
the
heart.
It
preserves
you
in the worst of times
during the journey towards
your dream.
And most crucial of it all,
it takes you
all the way through
until
the day of completion!
What is your
dream?
Why
do you want
to achieve this dream?
Have you
started doing
anything related to it?
Do you
enjoy
doing what this
is about?
What motivates
you
to make it happen?
Who motivates
you
to make it happen?
Question your dream.
Strip it naked
and
discover
whether this is
the dream
worth
spending your youth
preparing for.

too many lives are wasted not asking questions about themselves.
