Everybody wants a big life
but few understand the
great inconvenience of expansion,
and
fewer are willing
to complete the process.

I no longer boast my home
as 'fantasy island'
as how I used to fondly describe it
in Facebook photo albums.
Fulfilling the dream of creating a
world-class apartment,
the government has relegated a series of
major construction in my estate.
Their grand plan will become reality
with personal lifts that ferry residents to their doorstep.
An impressive future lies ahead -
but am I tough enough
to endure six more months of
nerve-wrecking,
irritation-elevating,
sleep-disturbing
mega construction that has already
destroyed the peace of my work and leisure space?
As I launched my impromptu escape
from this bulldozing-battlefield that so tortured me today,
I was reminded of the
painful process
we have to go through
whenever we want to
EXPAND
in life.
All of us are
small until we
grow by
learning new things,
gaining new experiences
and taking new grounds.
We could start as small as
huts or a one-room flat.
A big life
can only be contained
by a big capacity.
And the only way is to
make space.
Get ready
to
crash and burn.
You must first
knock down
the narrow walls
that limit you.
Old habits,
shallow knowledge,
rusty perspectives and mindsets.
These narrow walls may be
the hardest to break
so
prepare for the bulldozer.
It is a wild thing -
niceties and tenderness
excluded.
It will get
messy.
It will get
dusty.
You will have
thoughts of regret.
'Did I make a mistake?'
'Maybe I shouldn't have renovated.'
'It seems better to
stay small.
It's more comfortable there.
I'm not prepared for this.'
You might blame the person
who inspired you to expand,
'I shouldn't have listened to her.
I shouldn't have agreed!
She and her great ideas.'
But remember -
when Someone inspires you to grow,
he will not allow you to be destroyed.
He will protect and help you,
because
he loves you.
The world sets you up to fail.
But the one who loves you
only sets you up for
victory.
Stay small
or
grow
BIG?
You choose.
