Burn After Reading is a must-watch.
I think the message behind the film
is about the fool shaming the wise.
One character is Linda,
a dorky woman in her fourties
who is desperate for cosmetic surgery
and witty, 'funny' men.
She thinks she's found her answer
when she meets the character George Clooney was playing
through an online dating forum.
He's a package of
charisma, charm and everything irresistable.
Actually,
he's just your typical smooth-operator player
who sleeps around.
Talent, wit, intelligence, creativity, 'cool-ness' -
okay, let's face it,
people with these are everywhere.
What's so uncommon about it?
Linda didn't know
he's a talented, witty, intelligent, creative, cool,
and an absolutely immature man.
Last night,
someone reminded me,
that talented people are countless.
Then I think we should not be
too impressed with talent,
even wit and intelligence.
Coverlooks, witty conversations
they bore you after awhile.
A friend told me how he's sick of his 'party friends'
cos it gets 'so fake'.
When the hype fades,
you're not interested about personalities anymore -
and you wonder what you're looking for.
If it's not talent or personality,
it's got to be maturity.
What is maturity?
Yah Lan said,
Maturity is
doing what's right
even when no one's looking
not giving up
even when things are getting tough
giving
even out of lack
loving
even when it's hard to love
pushing forward
even when you feel like sliding away
believing
even when your circumstances scream
that nothing is possible anymore
Now we know,
a mature person is a rarity.
How about starting with ourselves?
