I learnt in class two days ago that
Singaporeans are the
Fastest-Talking,
Fastest-Eating and
Fastest-Walking
People in the world today!
Do you think so?
I was pretty proud of ourselves, really.
What a glorious personality we have, I thought.
But now,
I'm stepping back and reconsidering this fact.
We're so caught up in the whirlwind of busyness,
We fail to focus on the things that are more important.
It's hard to be quiet within yourself,
And learn how to listen to your heart.
A Zen once said
The longest journey in the world
Is a distance of 12 inches
from the
Heart to the Brain.
Biologically speaking,
It's only an inch,
From your Hippocampus (where your emotions are generated)
To your Cerebral Cortex (in simple words, the intellectual hub of your brain).
It's tough to balance our emotions and thoughts
When our brain is too occupied and restless.
That's why you see
Some people talking to themselves in public places -
Without any sense of embarrassment.
It's not because they are shameless.
Their Hippocampus has popped off like a shaken can of Coke;
Too much accumulated emotional problems undealt with.
It simply takes over all logic.
Your feet has lost its grounding.
You are vulnerable to the unpredictable weather of life
That toss you to and fro
Mercilessly.
The rush of society,
It's purposeless rhythm has grown too loud
For us to hear that voice.
Then what is our Anchor
That can stabilise us?
I'd ask
Who is our Anchor
Who can stabilise us.
Not the highs and lows of my circumstances.
Not the favour and disfavour of people.
Not the approval and disapproval of others.
For they are always unpredictable.
But the one is the same
Yesterday, Today and Forever.
My Forever,
The Author and Finisher
Of me.
Today,
Take your time.
Slow down.
Set work aside.
Encounter the one
Who is closer than the
Air that you breathe.
