Cost of Words.

[My favourite conductor, Gustavo Dudamel.
You must see him conduct.
He's music in flesh and bones.]

'Don't worry, Val.
Your enemy won't be there

[at an upcoming dinner party].'
says Carol.

I pause and ponder
a few seconds.

'But I don't have any!'
I splutter.

'Exactly!'
she quips.

We grin.

*
I'm sure I have enemies.
It'd be naive of me
to believe that I've none.
That'd be committing the worst crime
against myself -
self-deception.

I just don't remember
who they are.
And the most important reason
for forgetting:

I don't hate them.
Hating people is like
burning your house down
to find the rat.

In life,
It is impossible to please everybody -

especially when you want
to do great things in life.

You could be the conductor
of the world's most prestigious orchestra.
But you cannot fulfill your destiny
unless you turn your back

on the crowd.

Living a peaceful life
includes being in the midst of
people who disapproves, dislike
or even hate you.

Peace is not without
challenges, trials and problems.

It involve stressful times,
conflicts and trying situations.

It all boils down to
how big you want your life to be.

Everybody wants a
great destiny

but tend to forget
that means
paying a
great price
.

A huge slice of it is
walking on the tightrope of
Great Scrutiny.

The public eye magnetised
to the next-big-thing.

People will watch
and surely,

they will talk.

'Is he going to make it
or break it?'

They will scrutinise, judge and criticise.
Your BFF could actually join the gang
and go against you.
That happened to me before.
Incredible, yes.
Tragic, yes.
But the worst it did to me
was a few days of shock
and an eternity of gratefulness.

See,
Mercy
is an uncommon virtue.

Which great person
in the history of mankind
never had enemies?

When you want to do
big things,
you are like the conductor
of an orchestra.

To deliver excellent performance,
you need to be ferociously focused.
You cannot be distracted
by trivial things
or you'll lose the rhythm and beat.

You cannot waste a moment
wondering what is the audience
behind you thinking or speaking
about you.

A wise person selects
whose words
he shall pay attention to.

Everybody's words
cost differently.

The value of some people's words
should have an astronomical price tag.
Their words weighs in his heart.

He
heeds constructive criticisms
by those he respects and trusts.

Their words
challenge
what he can do today.

Stretch. Enlarge.
That tomorrow,
he is bigger.

[Emmanual Dunand]

Their words
fine-tune
who he is today.

Shape. Sharpen.
That tomorrow,
he is better.

He graciously
accepts praises. But he does not puff up.

He
does not feed on flattery -
he knows delicious food
could be junk food too.

As for his enemies,
occassionally,
he reads it for entertainment's sake.
Usually,
he'd file them away under the Junk Folder
and ban them altogether.
Empty trash can.

Don't allow unncessary words
clutter your mind.

Clear it out.
Wipe its stain
from your brain.

Some of you need a massive spring cleaning.

It does feel fantastic
to be clutter-free,

that you find it very difficult
to remember you actually have enemies
because really,
you don't give a heck
to
cheap words.

Wicked goblins cannot thrive
or even survive
in optimistic climates.

What does it look like
in your mind now?
