Lately, Sunday afternoons have been personal time
with tea, book and my writing instruments.
Restless as I usually am,
my mind has to run wild
if I am determined to not cafe-hop [as I tend to].
I indulge in dreaming, visualising and imagining.
But today I am reminded
to cherish the present.
We recall the past
we anticipate the future
we stray from
keeping to the present.
And I read,
'We never actually live,
but hope to live,
and since we are always planning how to be happy,
it is inevitable that
we should never be happy.'
Blaise Pascal on Human Happiness
[17th century philosopher and mathematician]
We often throw ourselves to the extremes -
sliding back to the past or
wandering about in times which do not belong to us.
Thinking about it,
doesn't Contentment strike the balance?
I used to despise Contentment
as I couldn't make a distinction between
Contentment and Dissatisfaction.
You can be Contented and happy now,
but it doesn't mean you lose hope for the future.
You can be Contented
and not satisfied.
You acknowledge the good today
and you believe for a better tomorrow.
But I used to
only hope for a better tomorrow
and burden myself with
if-only's of today.
Have you felt this way before?
Contentment is a lost art
I want to master this week.
And I see that, there Valerie goes again,
striving for the future,
forgetting the present.
Contentment.
I look around me,
and I can only
thank you and be amazed.

My very shy nephews.
It's my first time meeting them.
